Marion Anna (Howard) Snyder passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, September 28th with her cat by her side.

Born to Alvin and Marie Svarz on July 16, 1920, Marion was raised in Seattle, graduated from Franklin High School in 1938 and attended the University of Washington studying music. Marion started figure skating in high school and participated in many ice shows and carnivals. Her favorite skating destination was Sun Valley, ID, arriving there for the first time via train as a member of the YWCA Girl Reserves. Her last time skating there was at the age of 74.

Marion was also an accomplished musician and in addition to her first love, piano, played the accordion as a member of Speldosan, a Scandinavian folk ensemble. Speldosan often performed at Northwest Folklife Festival and many local Scandinavian events. They went on to produce an album titled “Nordic Homespun.” Marion had many other creative interests, among them working with stained glass, wood carving and gardening, and was able to extract fresh flowers from her garden in any season.

Marion retired from The Boeing Company in 1982, after a 24 year career that started in 1942. She has been a lifelong member of the Seattle Skating Club, member of the Association of Stained Glass Lamp Artists and the Fun with Mums club.

Marion was known for her kindness, cheerful nature and mischievous sense of humor, and will always be remembered for her beautiful music, figure skating, stained glass and love of gardening.

She was preceded in death by husbands Jack D. Howard (1959) and Professor Richard C. Snyder (1994). Marion leaves behind her daughters Geraldine Hamilton (Robert), Lois Long (Geary), son James Howard, granddaughters Ann Marie Eng (Steven) and Christine Ure (Keith), great-grandsons Harrison and Gavin Eng and sister-in-law Mrs. Alvin Svarz, Jr., in addition to her second family; the sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Richard Snyder.
