2008-09 U.S. Developmental Team Announced

(7/23/2008) - U.S. Figure Skating is pleased to announce the members of the 2008-09 Developmental Team. Each Developmental Team athlete will receive supplemental funding in the amount of $1,000 to enhance his or her training and development.

Developmental team athletes are chosen based on the following criteria:

  • Athletes are chosen each year solely by their placement at the previous year's U.S. Figure Skating Championships or U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships.
  • Athletes placing fourth, fifth or sixth in novice ladies, novice men, novice pairs or novice ice dancing at the previous year's U.S. Championships are automatically placed in the Developmental Team Envelope.
  • Athletes placing in the top three of all disciplines in the juvenile and intermediate levels at the previous year's U.S. Junior Championships are automatically placed in the Developmental Team envelope.
  • All athletes must be planning to compete in the 2009 qualifying season, and pairs and dance teams must remain together in order to remain in the Developmental Team envelope and receive funding.
  • In the event that a team splits or an athlete quits, becomes injured or is unable to compete in qualifying competitions for some other reason, the Athlete Development Committee (ADC) decides on a replacement in order of their placement at the championships. (For example, if the second-place intermediate pairs team is no longer skating together, the ADC may select the fourth-place intermediate pairs team as a replacement provided that that team fulfills the other criteria mentioned above.) A replacement is not mandatory.
